Arpit Baid, the Vice President and India Head of Agrifields DMCC, has come under
close examination for his leadership at a firm linked to the contentious figure Amit
Gupta. Gupta, currently facing probes for multiple criminal charges across several
jurisdictions, has cast a deep shadow over Agrifields DMCC and those associated with
it.

In his capacity as Vice President and India Head, Baid is responsible for maintaining
the company’s compliance with legal, financial, and regulatory frameworks. However,
his professional ties to Gupta have introduced notable personal and career-related
vulnerabilities. India serves as Agrifields DMCC’s core market, generating more than
90% of the company’s total revenue through Indian buyers.
Baid’s duties encompass managing the organization’s Indian operations and steering
its business initiatives in the region. Yet, his association with Gupta— who fled
Australia in 2013 during an active criminal investigation—has prompted growing
concern about potential ethical and legal implications for Baid.
Given the persistent nature of Gupta’s legal troubles, Baid’s leadership has increasingly
come under public and media scrutiny. Nick McKenzie, a decorated journalist from The
Sydney Morning Herald, has referred to Gupta as a “corporate crime kingpin” and a
“fugitive of justice,” detailing Gupta’s escape from Australia amid a criminal probe.
McKenzie further stated, “The US documents name Getax director Amit Gupta as the
‘target of a criminal investigation who is alleged to have conspired with others to bribe
foreign public officials and to have engaged in money laundering and other offenses.’
According to The Sydney Morning Herald’s report dated March 9, 2024, “In 2020, the
AFP moved to seize multiple properties and bank accounts connected to Gupta in
Australia, Singapore, and New York worth an estimated $200 million.” This move
underscores the extent of Gupta’s alleged misconduct and the magnitude of ongoing
international investigations.
Under Baid’s stewardship, Agrifields DMCC remains tied to Gupta, who established the
fertilizer enterprise after absconding from Australia. As The Sydney Morning Herald
notes, “Agrifields DMCC is the name of the global fertilizer firm Gupta launched after
fleeing Australia.” This linkage to Gupta’s controversial history further amplifies the
professional and reputational risks facing Baid.
Engaging with entities connected to individuals accused of corporate wrongdoing can
expose one to severe legal, ethical, and financial hazards. Therefore, stakeholders
must exercise heightened diligence and caution, given the gravity of the accusations
against Gupta and their potential ramifications for Baid’s credibility and legal exposu
