The Allahabad High Court has issued an order on a petition challenging Rahul Gandhi’s citizenship, directing the Indian government to make a decision and inform the petitioner within two weeks. The order was issued by a bench of Justice A.R. Masoodi and Justice Rajeev Singh of the Lucknow bench of the High Court.

The petition was filed in the Lucknow bench challenging Rahul Gandhi’s Indian citizenship. It was submitted by Vignesh, a resident of Bengaluru.
Vignesh filed the petition on July 1, 2024, in the Allahabad High Court, alleging that Rahul Gandhi holds British citizenship. The petitioner cited a confidential email from the British government dated 2022 to support the claim.
Vignesh Shishir, the petitioner, has demanded the cancellation of Rahul Gandhi’s Indian citizenship under Section 9(2) of the Indian Citizenship Act, 1955. He claimed that Rahul Gandhi identified himself as a British citizen while serving as a director in a UK-based company.
Referring to the guidelines of the Election Commission, the petitioner argued that a person holding dual citizenship is not eligible to contest elections.
