Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has proposed a major transformation for the city’s iconic yet congested markets—Chandni Chowk and Sadar Bazaar. Addressing a gathering at a Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) event at Bharat Mandapam, Pragati Maidan, she emphasized the urgent need to shift these overcrowded marketplaces to more spacious locations.

Gupta highlighted that traders in these age-old commercial hubs are forced to operate in extremely cramped conditions, making business operations—and even daily life—challenging. “It’s time we move such markets to better, more organized spaces to promote trade and ease the burden on shopkeepers,” she stated.
She further criticized previous administrations for Delhi’s stagnation over the past decade, citing a lack of both vision and willpower. The CM reiterated her government’s commitment to revitalizing industry and commerce and stressed the importance of collaboration with the trader community to drive economic growth in the capital.
