Today, India’s Largest Nationwide Run “RUN4NIINE”took place at Seeds of Innocence IVF & Maternity Hospital, opposite Aurobindo College Malviya Nagar, Delhi to drive menstrual hygiene. The run Started from the college and extended to one kilometer. The women volunteers during the run distributed sanitary pads to encourage menstrual hygiene amongst the women.
The run is took place in more than 500 cities in over 20 states in India to break and tackle the stigma of menstruation. The star-studded flag-off event was attended by BJP member of Parliament Mrs. Meenakshi Lekhi , BJP Councillor Mr. Subhash Bhadana(Greater Kailash 2, New Delhi) and BJP Councillor Ms. Nandini Sharma(Malviya Nagar, New Delhi). The event was held today on 8th March to mark International Women’s day
Present at the event BJP member of Parliament Mrs. Meenakshi Lekhi spoke about menstrual hygiene, she said .”It is my request to all the women out there to use clean and organic material based sanitary pads and not to use plastic-polymer based sanitary pads. You can also use clean cloth instead of sanitary pads and dispose them. It will help you to maintain proper hygiene. Also, it will help to prevent marine pollution and keep our water bodies clean and pollution-free.”
Run4Niine was also supported by the Pad Man of India, Akshay Kumar who took part in the event in Lucknow. Speaking about Run4Niine, megastar Akshay Kumar said, “I am excited to partner with the Niine Movement to encourage an open and unashamed discussion on menstruation with my fellow citizens, pad heroes, change makers and pathbreakers for Run4Niine. Each one of us that has taken part in Run4Niine have helped to create an unstoppable force that will beat the stigma around periods.”
“RUN4NIINE” also took place at Leisure Valley, Gurgaon where flag-off event was attended by Kolkatta Pad Hero Sobhan Mukherjee who took the pioneering step to install vending boxes for sanitary napkins in various pay-and-use toilets in Kolkatta.
