Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) leader and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Raut hailed the Centre’s recent decision on the caste-based census as a significant victory for Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. According to Raut, while Prime Minister Narendra Modi may head the government, it is Rahul Gandhi who currently influences the policy direction.

Reacting to the renewed political debate surrounding the caste census, Raut highlighted Rahul Gandhi’s persistent efforts over the past decade to push for such a census, both inside Parliament and on the streets. He emphasized that social justice and representation have always been central to Gandhi’s political agenda.
Criticizing the BJP, Raut accused its leaders of maintaining a contradictory stance on the issue. He pointed to Union Minister Anurag Thakur’s disparaging remarks about Rahul Gandhi in Parliament as proof of the BJP’s resistance to the caste census. Raut sarcastically questioned whether the government had been turning a deaf ear to the demand for so many years.
Raut concluded by saying that the Centre’s move, though delayed, marks a victory for the Bahujan, Dalit, OBC, and other marginalized groups. He asserted that the credit for raising awareness and pushing the issue forward belongs to the people—and to Rahul Gandhi.
