Shiv Sena (Uddhav faction) leader Sanjay Raut has termed the central government’s decision on caste census as a victory for Rahul Gandhi. He said that the government may be Modi’s, but right now the system is running under Rahul Gandhi’s influence. Raut also accused the BJP of adopting a double standard on the issue.
Political rhetoric around the caste census has intensified once again. Reacting to the recent decision taken by the central government regarding the caste census, Shiv Sena (Uddhav faction) leader and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Raut described Rahul Gandhi’s role as decisive, saying, “The government may belong to Modi, but the system is currently being driven by Rahul.” Raut added that Rahul Gandhi has consistently demanded a caste census for the past ten years, raising the issue both inside Parliament and on the streets. He reminded that Rahul Gandhi has repeatedly highlighted the topics of social justice and representation in his parliamentary speeches.
Sanjay Raut accused BJP leaders of adopting a dual stance on the matter. He pointed to the derogatory remarks made by BJP leader Anurag Thakur in Parliament about Rahul Gandhi as evidence of the BJP’s open opposition to the caste census. Taking a jibe, Raut asked, “When this issue has been raised for so many years, were the ears of the government stuffed with cotton?” He also said that if the government has taken a decision on the census6 today, it is a victory for the Bahujan, Dalit, OBC, and oppressed communities—but the credit for this awakening should go to the people of the country and Rahul Gandhi.
